I was delighted to visit Garth Hill College, Bracknell on Friday. A big thank to the principle, Mr Keith Grainger, his staff and students for such a warm welcome. Garth Hill has undergone a transformation over the years with new facilities and I am pleased to support the college. Innovation in education is essential and a area within the College’s grounds has been turned into an outdoor museum. This is a wonderful opportunity for primary and secondary aged pupils in Bracknell Forest, as well as others in the wider community, to make a strong connection with the past and engage in remembrance of the First World War.
Visitors will benefit from ‘hands on’ educational talks, re-enactment demonstrations, displays and access to supporting digital information. Visitors would ‘walk through’ a realistic First World War trench in order to gain an understanding of a soldier’s life at the front. Educational activities and demonstrations will help visitors to:
- understand the war and the conditions in the trenches
- uncover personal stories
- experience typical trench life
- explore the legacy of the Great War and what it means to us today.
