James Sunderland, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Veterans, is calling on all UK veterans who have claimed from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) or War Pensions or any financial support from Veterans UK, to complete the APPG's survey.
The APPG has heard anecdotal evidence from veterans of problems accessing the support they need from Veterans UK, the branch of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) responsible for supporting veterans.
James said:
“What we are seeking to do is to get as much information and evidence as possible to allow us to build up a picture, to generate the evidence we need to initiate a formal enquiry.”
“At the moment, if you are in need of support the barriers are too strong, the bar is set too high, it takes too long and the burden of proof required is too high.”
“There is enough of a problem for a significant number of backbenchers to get together and say we’ve got work to do. My job is to convince the MOD that there is an issue, that we need to invest more in our veterans.”
