James Sunderland MP is encouraging constituents to take part in the railway ticket office consultation being run by the Passenger Watchdog Transport Focus.
The proposals are basically to close ticket offices across the network, not necessarily immediately, but progressively to bring staff out of ticket offices and on to stations, because just 12% of all tickets are sold at station ticket offices.
James said:
“I encourage anyone concerned about these changes to email the consultation. I know that disabled groups are particularly concerned about the impact, as are older people who are not able to use online systems. It appears that these proposals are being based on when tickets are sold rather than the needs of passengers, especially those who need assistance.
“I have arranged a meeting with SWR and GWR to let them know my concerns and the impact these changes will have on local people.”
Consultation closes 1 September.
