James Sunderland MP attended the official opening ceremony of the House of Commons Constituency Garden of Remembrance in New Palace Yard today. The Constituency Garden of Remembrance is a joint commemoration project by the House of Commons and the Royal British Legion.
James joined other MPs in placing a tribute on behalf of his constituents and when completed, the garden will contain tributes from constituencies from all over the country as well as from the member countries of the Commonwealth and British Overseas Territories.
This year the focus is on commemorating and honouring service and remembering everyone who has stood up to defend our way of life during conflict and national emergencies. Whether thousands of miles from home or just down the road, they all have one thing in common, they’ve shown extraordinary dedication despite the personal cost.
James said:
“It was an honour to place this tribute on behalf of the people of the Bracknell constituency. As a former soldier this is very important to me and I know that my constituents feel the same. With a war once again taking place on European soil, this year is even more poignant than previously. We must never forget the sacrifices made in defence of our freedom and we cannot take that freedom for granted.”
