James Sunderland secures support for Desecration of War Memorials Bill

James Sunderland MP has secured cross-party support for a Desecration of War Memorials Bill.

He said:
“I am pleased to have secured Government and Opposition backing for this new Bill. It is right that the Criminal Damage Act 1971 should be amended to provide specific protections for war memorials.

“Our fallen must always be respected - they gave us the democracy and freedoms that we enjoy today.”

The Desecration of War Memorials Bill is due to be presented to the House on 23 June, before being assumed by Ministry of Justice.
