James Sunderland MP welcomes the Veterans Action Plan

The Government has launched Veterans Strategy Action Plan 2022-2044 which includes over 60 commitments to be delivered during the period to support the ex-service personnel who have given so much to their country.  This work follows the 2018 Strategy for our Veterans which set out the vision for the Government’s support and recognition of the veteran community.  The objective of the plan is to make the UK the best place in the world to be a veteran by 2028.

Just as every experience of service in the Armed Forces is different, so is the experience of the veterans transitioning into civilian life.  While the majority of veterans make this move successfully and go on to live happy and healthy lives, contributing greatly to our economy and society, the Government stands by those who need additional support.

With the focus on increasing employment, improving health and wellbeing services, and improving data to help us better understand the needs of the veteran community, the service and sacrifices made by veterans deserve our thanks, but they also deserve every opportunity to prosper in life after service.

James said:

“As the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Veterans, the All Party Parliamentary Group for Armed Forces Covenant and a proud veteran of 27 years’ service, I welcome the launch of the Veterans' Strategy Action Plan 2022-2024.

“This plan is sending a clear and unequivocal message to the veteran community: just as you stood by your country in its hour of need, the nation will continue to fulfil its duty by providing the support you need when you leave the Armed Forces.’’
