The rate of claims for Universal Credit due to unemployment continues to fall in Bracknell Forest. The latest data from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) shows that there were 1,900 actual claimants in Bracknell Forest in February 2022, which was 2.6% of the population aged 16-64. The equivalent UK claimant rate was 4.3%.
Whilst this is still higher than in March 2020, before the first UK lockdown began, the important factor is that that there are more people back in work in Bracknell Forest which is contributing to a growing economy. The economy for the UK is now larger in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) than before the start of the pandemic.

“Bracknell Forest has consistently demonstrated its ability to be a hard-working area with low rates of unemployment. However, we still have a responsibility to assist those still not in employment to be back work via new jobs, apprenticeships, and retraining. I applaud the staff at the local Job Centre, the staff at Bracknell Forest Council and employers who help those still looking for work”.
